We stopped at the town of Vik on the southern coast on our way back to Reykjavik.

Vik is known for the sea stacks

and the black sand beach that was rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world by some magazine. no swimming here but the sand is absolutely beautiful.

There are also basalt columns

looking up the basalt columns

and there's a sea arch. someone once flew a small airplane through the arch.

East of Vik the land is flat and out of nowhere there are all these little mounds--you're supposed to add a rock for good luck.
