summer cabin

we went to a summer cabin this weekend (even though it's winter they're still called summer cabins). just like people in the mid-west go to cottages up north, people in iceland go to summer cabins outside the city. there are whole communities of summer cabins, which i think is kind of funny--lots of little cabins all clustered together but no stores or shops or lakes. the one we stayed is owned by morgunbladid (the newspaper where jamie works) and is in a geothermal area near geysir so we had a hot tub. i sat in the hot tub for at least 2 hours last night watching the northern lights--it was pretty awesome. overall it was great weekend and nice to get out of the city one last time before i leave iceland...
